Jane E. Curtis, Ph.D.

Dr. Jane Curtis has specialized in the assessment and treatment of adults and seniors presenting with a wide variety of emotional, family, medical, and neuropsychological difficulties. But during her career, she has worked with the young and old alike. During the past 20 years, Dr. Curtis has worked with children and adults in a variety of medical and academic settings. She has been in private practice on Bainbridge Island since 1999 and provides psychotherapy and assessment services to individuals, couples, and families. Her current focus is the experience of anxiety and depression throughout the life span. Dr. Curtis completed her doctoral training in 1992 in Professional-Scientific Psychology at Utah State University in Logan, Utah. This program is approved by the American Psychological Association in Clinical, Counseling, and School Psychology.

Dr. Steve Curtis has specialized in the assessment and treatment of children presenting with emotional, behavioral, developmental, and learning difficulties throughout his training and work experience. He is both a Licensed Child Clinical Psychologist and Nationally Certified School Psychologist. Dr. Curtis has worked in a variety of medical, school, and university settings for the past 25+ years. In his private practice, he provides psychotherapy and assessment services to children and families. His specialty is in working with elementary-aged children who are struggling with behavioral and learning difficulties at home or school. Dr. Curtis completed his doctoral training in 1992 in Professional-Scientific Psychology at Utah State University in Logan, Utah. This program is approved by the American Psychological Association in Clinical Psychology, as well as Counseling and School Psychology. Recently, Dr. Curtis was appointed as an advisory board member of SENG. SENG is a non-profit national organization dedicated to the social and emotional needs of gifted children (www.sengifted.org). Antonia G. Burkhard, MA, CCC-SLP

Antonia G. Burkhard is a speech-language pathologist who specializes in the evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment of individuals (2 years and above) who have delays, disorders or difficulties in speech, language, cognitive-communication, voice, and swallowing. She holds a Master of Arts Degree in Education, specializing in Communicative Disorders and Sciences from San Jose State University in California. She is licensed and nationally certified by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA). Antonia has worked in educational, adult acute care rehabilitation, and adult and pediatric outpatient settings. She has also taught a university course as part of an ongoing program to train graduate students in providing appropriate service delivery for culturally and linguistically diverse populations.
Additionally, Antonia holds a Master of Arts Degree in Classical Languages and Literatures from University of Kentucky. As a Teaching Assistant there, she taught Classical Mythology to undergraduate students. She has also taught Beginner to Advanced Placement Latin to middle and high school students. Antonia finds much joy in providing speech services to all age levels and their families. She is especially interested in areas of higher level language, social/pragmatic language, and executive functioning.

Sara Fleehart, M.S., LMFTA
Adolescent Therapy and Tutoring
Sara Fleehart is Lifespan's adolescent therapy and tutoring specialist, with a background in child, adolescent, and family counseling. She holds a Master of Science degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from Seattle Pacific University. This program is nationally accredited by the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy. She further has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from Gonzaga University. She has had formal training and clinical experience in counseling children, adolescents, and families with a wide variety of challenges, including anxiety, depression, body image dissatisfaction, and relationship difficulties. As a teacher’s assistant in college, Mrs. Fleehart instructed and assisted students in writing, critical thinking, research analysis, grammar, and test preparation. She is passionate about working with the adolescent population as both a therapist and a tutor and helping teens to deal with anxiety, depression, social navigation (such as girl politics), eating disorders and body image challenges, academic difficulties, and SAT and college application preparation.

Diana Potter, B.A.
Professional Tutor
Diana Potter is a professional tutor at Lifespan who has extensive experience working with children. She is a trained special education teacher and has worked in both private and public educational settings for 25+ years. She worked most recently for 10 years at the ASSETS school in Honolulu, Hawaii. ASSETS is a private school in Honolulu for dyslexic, gifted, and gifted/dyslexic students. Ms. Potter has a B.A. in English, with a special education teacher certification from the University of Utah. She also completed graduate level course work in special education at the University of Hawaii. She is trained in Orton-Gillingham, Slingerland, Mortensen Math, Project Read, Differentiated Integration, and classroom management techniques. Her expertise is in teaching reading, writing, and math to elementary-age children with learning challenges.

Gail Nakata
Office Manager
Gail is Lifespan’s Office Manager. She works Monday through Thursday. She is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the clinic including handling questions about Lifespan, scheduling of appointments, obtaining insurance authorization, handling insurance claims, organization of the office, conducting payroll activities, and completing other miscellaneous activities as needed. She can answer many of your questions about Lifespan including matters related to the background of our clinicians, types of services provided, fees, billing, and directions. Gail has extensive experience with office management and is an integral part of our organization.

Sunny Houmes
Administrative Assistant
Sunny is our administrative assistant at Lifespan. Sunny works part time and primarily is responsible for reminder calls, scheduling, and other many other related tasks as needed. She can also answer almost any question that you may have regarding our services and procedures.
